Khellong, Doimara, 18th January 2025: The 4th edition of the Eaglenest Bird Festival was successfully held today in Khellong, Doimara, West Kameng District. The event, graced by Hon'ble Minister Shri Wangki Lowang Ji as the Chief Guest, along with HMLA Shri Tseten Chombay Ji, HMLA Shri Tenzin Nyima Glow Ji, Conservator of Forests, Wildlife, and Biodiversity, IFS Dr. Damodar Ji, and ZPC Karma Dorjee Thongdok Ji, showcased the region's rich biodiversity through eco-tourism initiatives.
In a significant development, Minister Lowang also unveiled and laid the foundation stone for two landmark projects: the His Holiness Dalai Lama Heritage Trekking Trail and the His Holiness Dalai Lama Biodiversity Park.
The Heritage Trail commemorates the Dalai Lama's journey to India in 1959, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and adventure. The Biodiversity Park, located near the Eagle Nest Wildlife Sanctuary, will serve as a hub for eco-tourism and cultural preservation, showcasing the region's unique biodiversity and heritage.
The festival featured a range of engaging activities, including a Birdathon, wildlife exploration, and adventure programs, attracting environmental enthusiasts from across the country. Notably, participants included students and faculty from USTM, Rajiv Gandhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru College, and Kaliabar College.
The event received extensive media coverage from national and regional outlets, including BBC, The Hindustan Times, Times of India, Northeast Today, NewsFy, and Kameng Khabar. Organizations like Responsible Tourism Fellows, The Green Hub, and Shergaon also played a crucial role in its success.
The organizers expressed gratitude to the GBs and PRI members of Doimara and Kamengbari, and the community of Thongre village for their invaluable support. Special commendation was extended to Organizing Chairman Smt Kesang Lamu Khrimey Ji and the entire committee for their dedication and hard work.
