SINGCHUNG, Dec 20: Environment Minister Applauds Conservation Efforts in SBVCR

Environment & Forests Minister Wangki Lowang, during his maiden visit to the Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve (SBVCR) and the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary (EWLS), praised the community’s dedication to biodiversity conservation.


Accompanied by local MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow and PCCF P Subramaniam, Lowang visited the site on Thursday in West Kameng district. He emphasized the need to replicate such community-driven initiatives across the state to foster biodiversity preservation and community participation.

The minister’s visit commenced at the forest rest house, Ramalingam, followed by a tour of the Nature Interpretation Centre. Range Forest Officer Yachang Kani provided a detailed walkthrough of the centre’s exhibits, highlighting the significance of the SBVCR’s initiatives.

The team inspected the forest check gate managed by SBVCR’s protection squad and toured Glowbari, a critical habitat home to the endangered Bugun liocichla, a bird species unique to this region.

The minister also reviewed the ecotourism facilities at Lama Camp, including the tourist camp operated by SBVCR, commending their efforts in promoting conservation through sustainable tourism.
