The 2023-25 batch of IFS probationers, consisting of 57 individuals, embarked on a hill tour as part of their training program. Accompanied by one faculty member, they visited the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve on May 22nd, 2024.
During their visit, the probationers interacted with Forest officials and the management committee, gaining valuable insights into various management and protection practices adopted by the sanctuary and reserve. They also engaged in birdwatching and trekking to Tragopanda Lake, allowing them to appreciate the rich biodiversity of the region.
The next day, May 23rd, the probationers visited the community library run by Gurung Thik, where they learned about various conservation activities undertaken by the organization. This was followed by a trek to the sacred grove at Shergaon, providing them with a deeper understanding of the local ecosystem.
Additionally, the probationers had the unique opportunity to participate in the Chokker Festival of the Shertukpen community, allowing them to experience the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Throughout the tour, the probationers were accompanied by Forest officials, including CF HQ Millo Tasser, DFO Tabom Soki, and RFO Yachang Kani of Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, who provided valuable guidance and support.
This hill tour provided the IFS probationers with a comprehensive understanding of conservation efforts, community engagement, and cultural diversity, enriching their knowledge and experience as future forest managers.
