World Snake Day Celebration at Rupa 2024

The Shergaon Forest Division, Rupa, celebrated World Snake Day by organizing a workshop at the Meeting Hall of the ADC office in Rupa. The workshop was held in collaboration with the Sinchung Bugun Village Community Reserve and mentored by Mr. Yachang Kani, RFO of Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary.

The keynote address by RFO Yachang Kani highlighted the significance of World Snake Day and its theme for 2024: "Understanding and Avoiding Conflict with Snakes."

The workshop attracted a diverse audience, including Mr. Rinchin Thongdok, member of the State Board for Wildlife (Arunachal Pradesh government), representatives from D.T. Khrimey (Tukpen Village Council Secretary), Sungkhik Self Help Group, Zagang Depga (NGO), Nature Friendship Society, Rupa Bird Club (Bona Lama), and students and youths from various backgrounds.

The event was informative and engaging. Snake expert Mr. Leki Norbu, a member of the SBVCR, provided a detailed presentation on the different types of snakes found in West Kameng, including both venomous and non-venomous species. The SBVCR team also addressed common myths and facts about snakes, demonstrated appropriate responses to snake encounters and bites, and showcased various emergency evacuation techniques for snakebite victims.

In the latter part of the program, Mr. Yachang Kani presented two PPT presentations focusing on how laypeople can avoid conflicts with snakes and keep their surroundings snake-free.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dorjee Dema Lama, RFO.
